The Department of Religion at UGA is proud to announce that the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board selected Dr. Kendall Marchman as the 2023-2024 Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Society and Culture. The Fulbright Program promotes understanding and learning between the United States and other countries. Dr. Marchman will travel to Edmonton during the 2023 Fall Semester to work at the University of Alberta. While in Edmonton, he will work on his next research project, “The Western Pure Land: (Mis)Representations of Pure Land Buddhism.” The project chronicles Western representations of Pure Land Buddhism and considers their influence on the popularity of Pure Land Buddhism among Western Buddhists and buddhologists. Dr. Marchman has also received support for this project from the Sarah H. Moss Fellowship, administered by the Center for Teaching and Learning at UGA.
