With the support of the Department of Religion and Institute for African American Studies, graduate students Chera Jo Watts and Sha’Mira Covington recently attended the Southern Humanities Council Conference in Memphis, TN, where they presented on their work facilitating the Hood Feminism book club during Fall 2021. Deploying decolonizing pedagogy and inspired by Womanist and Buddhist teachers, Watts and Covington shared their reflections from a duo-ethnographic approach, strategies for cultivating reading community for and with students, and invited potential collaborations in the future.
