PhD Candidate Instructor of Record I am a Ph.D. Candidate and Instructor of Record in the Department of Religion. My research interests include considering the ways women have been described by religion and religious institutions, the history of witch trials in Scotland and the US, and illegal trials for witchcraft in the Southeastern US. My dissertation will focus on a woman named Mary Ingleman who was tried in an illegal trial in 18th Century South Carolina who sued her torturer in civil court and won, and women who are rejecting descriptions placed upon them and embracing the label of witch through subversive repetition.
